I've built up a hydrophone using one of the new piezo preamp boards, and tested it against my last hydrophone.
Not the most scientific test, but demonstrates a bit what's going on.

I've just had a batch of piezo preamp circuit boards made by makepcb.com, and given them a first round of testing. Here's the results!

Leafcutter John has a great post about making Rochelle Salt, which is piezoelectric, and hence can be used as a contact mic: Real Sound Cookery.
My folks Peter and Judith are both crystallographers, so I thought I'd put them to work in the lab (kitchen) to make some nice crystals.
